Sanders Fritom has achieved the fourth Lean & Green star. This places the organisation among a select group of frontrunners in the sector who not only realise CO₂ reduction, but also substantiate this at the highest level of data transparency. The recognition marks an important milestone within the sustainability programme Fueled to Sustain.
The fourth Lean & Green star is awarded exclusively to organisations that demonstrably achieve at least 55 percent CO₂ reduction before 2030. This reduction must be realised within a scope covering at least 85 percent of total logistics activities. For Sanders Fritom, this certification confirms that the course set toward an emission‑free operation is bearing fruit.
Data‑driven sustainability in accordance with ISO 14083
What distinguishes the fourth star from earlier levels is the strict requirement for emission data quality. Sanders Fritom works with fully validated data in line with the ISO 14083 methodology. This enables the organisation to map the climate impact per shipment with precision.
“The fourth star requires more than just technical adjustments; it requires an integrated, data‑driven approach,” says Saskia Wiersma, KAM Coordinator at Sanders Fritom. “By registering and monitoring our emissions according to the latest ISO standards, we offer our customers absolute clarity. We can demonstrate exactly what our sustainability measures deliver each period and where proactive adjustments are needed. In a market that demands transparency, this is an indispensable foundation.”
Fueled to Sustain: A sustainable approach
The certification is a core component of Fueled to Sustain, the programme through which Sanders Fritom structures its logistics operations for a minimal footprint and maximum transparency. The results are visible throughout the entire chain: the entire Euro 6 fleet now runs on HVO100, leading to a direct and substantial reduction in CO₂ emissions. Additionally, the headquarters at Jagersveld in Uden was built according to the BREEAM‑NL ‘Excellent’ standard. The new warehouse is fully gas‑free, uses advanced heat pumps and generates its own energy through a large‑scale solar park on the roof. The building design focuses on a healthy indoor climate with abundant daylight, directly contributing to employee well‑being.
The human dimension in logistics
Within Fueled to Sustain, Sanders Fritom intentionally looks beyond technology and numbers. The programme integrates sustainability with social responsibility (the S in ESG). This is reflected in extensive vitality programmes, continuous training and a strong focus on a safe working environment. The organisation also invests structurally in community projects within the region.
Saskia adds: “Responsible entrepreneurship doesn’t stop at the exhaust pipe or the energy label of our building. Future‑proof logistics also depend on people who are healthy, skilled and engaged. They are the ones who put the approach into practice and safeguard the quality our customers and future generations rely on.”
With the achievement of the fourth star, Sanders Fritom meets the highest criteria within the Lean & Green programme. It offers customers and partners the assurance that they are working with a party that demonstrably contributes to global climate goals. Sanders Fritom will continue to invest in innovation and collaboration beyond this milestone to further minimise environmental impact through, for example, LHV routes and electric vehicles.
